How we recycle e-waste at TRI

Once we collect your items we start processing them.

All computers gets to shred. And this means that we manually take apart a computer and generate several piles of its different parts: plastic, metal, motherboards, hard drives, memory, floppy drives, wire, and miscellaneous.

If some of the parts in good condition we do reuse them. But all hard drives are shredded in order to protect your privacy. Hard drives get our special attention. Our WipeMASSter machine erases sensitive data in seven passes which is required by DoD (Department of Defense). And you can really trust us on this one- we recycle hard drives for ICE, FBI, IRS, GSA, Social Security, Schools, and Community Services.

And all parts that are not reusable we sell for pennies a pound. We ship these materials to manufactures all over the country and some to China. Nothing gets dumped into rives or the landfills neither in the states nor in China. Manufactures use our scrap to make new electronic devises and since China is one of the major manufacturers in the world it needs more materials than any other country.

Keep in mind, that a major portion of our manufacturing base has been outsourced to China a while ago. This country produces cheaper electronics and providing the Chinese with e-waste scrap is the best way to stock up our store’s shelves with affordable products! With all of the above being said, recycling electronics is the safest method of preserving limited virgin resources and keeping toxic trash out of the landfills.

So next time you buy a new IPhone just think that there is a big chance it might have been made out of your old computer! And we almost forgot to mention – all electronic waste has to be recycled by state law. We want California to be green and environmentally healthy, don’t we?

The City Of Montclair E-Waste Collection Progress

Since August 2009 The City of Montclair has enlisted the services of TRI
Products, Inc.
to collect and recycle Electronic Waste from the businesses
and residents of Montclair.

The service is rendered free of charge, and actually returns to the city a
small donation
for every pound of waste recycled.

Christopher Wheeler a Senior Account Executive with TRI Products, Inc. the state
licensed E-Waste Recycler selected by the city, met with Richard Beltran the
Assistant Finance Director for The City of Montclair.

The waste collected was all properly recycled under State of
California's own guidelines. It represents almost four tons of Electronic
Waste which if not properly recycled could have ended up almost anywhere.

According to the EPA report, there is Electronic Waste being disposed of
illegally every day
. Some in landfills, much of just dumped by the side of
a road or out in an uninhabited area. This is a danger to our air and water,
because there is up to eight pounds of hazardous waste in every P.C.!

The response from the residents and businesses in Montclair has steadily
grown
, and the program even at this early stage has been labeled as a
success, by the participants. Future generations won't have to worry about
that four tons of material that could be found in their water supply
someday.

Federal Goverment recycles e-waste with TRI!

On the 13th of January 2010 TRI had the pleasure of servicing our Federal Government.

Departments included:

  • ICE
  • FBI
  • IRS
  • GSA
  • Social Security and Community Services.

TRI recovered almost 4,500 Lbs! It looks as though we are to be regular visitors to the facility, as we are currently proposing a regular collection schedule for this as well as the other Federal Buildings in Southern California.

This also speaks volumes for TRI, with security at the top of everyone's agenda the Feds chose TRI as their ewaste recycler of choice.

So hats off to our Federal Government for the leadership it is showing in this area. We think the picture speaks for itself!
